Remember to stop when your 5 hours at the computer have been used up!

Action 5
The Petersons have heard that there is likely to be an increase in the price of gas from February onwards. This could be either 2, 3 or 4%.

Use your model to calculate the new cost of this gas for the family. You will have to produce three sheets to show the new cost.

NB
You will need to use a formula to do this.
Hint:
To calculate a 7% increase multiply the figure by 0.07. It will help if you make the total column an integer format - i.e. round it to a whole number.

Print off a copy  - don’t forget a formulae print too.

Action 6
Now that Gemma’s party has been paid for, the Petersons want to save for a holiday in America. They will need to save £5,500 to cover the cost.

Use your spreadsheet to make cuts in their expenditure to enable them to save this amount.

Create a separate savings account sheet and transfer the balance each month into this by linking the cells. You will have to re-model your sheet to do this.

NB
Some items of expenditure cannot be cut e.g. mortgage.

Print off graphs to show how the expenditure changes once you have made the savings.

Action 7
Produce a report of your findings explaining what you did and describing how useful spreadsheets are for modelling in this type of task.
